Though something of a latecomer to horse riding at the age of 15, Marc Houtzager is now one of the Netherlands' best riders.
A frequent feature of the Dutch team, he competes regularly in the FEI Nations Cup series, and also on the Global Champion Tour and international Grand Prix.
In 2008, Marc Houtzager was selected by national coach Rob Ehrens to compete at the Beijing Olympics, where he finished 7th in the individual competition and 4th in the team competition, riding Opium.
In 2009, he and the stallion finished 4th in the team event at the European Championships in Windsor. With Tamino, his other lead horse, he rode in the 2010 World Championships and finished 15th in the team competition.
The Dutch rider's hard work and thoroughness were rewarded at the 2012 Olympics in London, where Marc Houtzager and Tamino were part of the winning silver-medallist team.
