For the first time, prestigious player on the international art scene, Opera Gallery joins forces with the Longines Hong Kong Masters and celebrate the Year of the Horse with a unique equestrian themed exhibition in the Prestige Village including monumental sculptures.
A 6.5 high roaring stallion made entirely of 6,000 coat hangers by Scottish artist David Mach will be on display in the Prestige Village and is destined to be a major talking point. There will also be a 2.6m horse head constructed out of a Formula 1 engine by French artist Pierre Matter and a Salvador Dali bronze sculpture featuring his signature melting clock on a horse’s back.
Shirley Yablonsky from Opera Gallery Hong Kong said the Longines Hong Kong Masters is the ideal place to showcase the work of some revered contemporary artists.
“The timing is good and horses are a good link to various works by our artists that feature the landscapes and nature that these animals are connected with,” she said.
“It is a rare opportunity for visitors to see work by some of the most celebrated artists in the world ."
During each of the days of competition Opera Gallery will stage special art tours and a resident artist will also be on public display painting the Longines Masters horses in graffiti style.
